Amit Shah says Rahul Gandhi and allies should prepare for a big defeat in 2029

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of trying to protect infiltrators in the name of SIR. Shah said Gandhi should learn a lesson from the BJP's victories and that the Congress should introspect on its defeats. He also said Gandhi and his associates should be ready for a big defeat in 2029.

Following the BJP's strong showing in the Gujarat local body elections, Shah invoked SIR to target Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. He asked Gandhi whether it was because of SIR that the Congress has not won in Gujarat for 41 years. According to Shah, Gandhi dismisses the BJP's popularity and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the result of SIR, when the Congress needs to look within.

Shah said by-elections were held recently in three states, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and that the Congress did not win a single seat in them either.

In a post on X dated October 13, 2026, Shah wrote that the BJP's sweeping victories in the Gujarat local body elections, and in by-elections and local body elections held recently in other states, had again proved that the public has completely rejected the lies of Rahul Gandhi and the INDIA bloc. He said the people of the country stand like a rock with Modi. In the post, Shah said the Congress would lose for the fourth consecutive time in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and that the NDA would once again form the government with a massive majority.

Addressing those who blame voting machines for results, Shah said these elections were held with ballot papers. He said this proved completely false the argument that the BJP wins elections because of machines.

Shah said the Congress has been facing defeat for three, four or five decades in states such as Bengal, Tripura and Gujarat. He asked Gandhi directly whether this too was the effect of SIR, when SIR was implemented after 2024. Shah said the party has kept losing elections ever since Gandhi became its leading face, then party president, and now Leader of the Opposition.

Shah concluded that the NDA would secure a big win in the 2029 general election and that the Congress was heading towards another defeat. He alleged that Gandhi is following a strategy of sheltering infiltrators in the name of SIR. Shah claimed the people of the country have understood this strategy well.
