BJP stages protest in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar over sexual harassment allegations against Congress MP

Allegations of sexual harassment by 11 women students against Congress MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam have caused a stir in political circles. In protest, the BJP held an aggressive demonstration in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. At the protest at Kranti Chowk in the city, demonstrators demanded that the MP be arrested immediately and strict action be taken against him.
It is alleged that 11 women students have lodged a complaint of sexual harassment against Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam. After the matter came to light, its impact was seen in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar as well. The BJP held a vociferous protest at Kranti Chowk, where a large number of people gathered.
The agitation was led by former Union Minister of State for Finance Dr Bhagwat Karad. Former MLA Sanjay Kenekar and city president Kishor Shitole were also present. Many other BJP office-bearers and workers joined the protest in large numbers.
The protesters demanded that the accused MP be arrested immediately and given a severe punishment. They also said the women students who made the complaint must get justice. The police are investigating the case, it was stated.
During the agitation, BJP workers shouted slogans against the Congress. Angry workers expressed their protest by hitting a picture of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi with shoes. A demand was also made that MP Dr Angomcha Bimol be made to resign immediately and be expelled from the Congress.
BJP office-bearers said it was a serious matter that such allegations had been made against a people's representative. They demanded that the Congress immediately clarify its stand on the matter and take action.
Meanwhile, it is being said that the Congress has not yet made its official position known on the matter. How much truth there is in the allegations and what further details emerge will become clear only after the investigation. For now, the matter remains at the level of allegations and the police investigation is continuing.
