Eleven leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc, including Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, have filed a joint petition in the Supreme Court over alleged irregularities by the Election Commission. The petition is likely to be heard on Tuesday.

The petition was filed at 4.37 pm on October 12, 2026. It has been entered in the Supreme Court registry under diary number 64196/2026. The case is currently shown as pending, meaning it is awaiting a hearing.

Along with Rahul Gandhi, the petitioners are Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Saugata Roy, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Sanjay Raut, M.A. Baby, D. Raja, Mahua Maji, Supriya Sule and E.T. Mohammed Basheer. The 11 INDIA bloc leaders have thus approached the Supreme Court together.

Advocate Prasanna S. is appearing for the petitioners. The Election Commission of India has been made a respondent in the petition, as have Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.

According to sources, the petition raises questions about the transparency and fairness of the Election Commission's functioning. Alleged irregularities in recent elections, electoral rolls and issues related to the election process are said to be covered. However, the full copy of the petition has not yet been made public, so the exact issues raised in it are not clear.

Rahul Gandhi has earlier questioned the Election Commission's functioning and made allegations of "vote chori" (vote theft). With the petition now filed in the Supreme Court, political circles are watching the possible hearing. Whether it will be heard on Tuesday will be clear only from the court's official proceedings.
