Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi detained as 300 Opposition MPs march on Election Commission in Delhi
Police detained Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra after about 300 INDIA bloc MPs marched against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
MPs of the INDIA bloc marched towards the Election Commission in Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The march was led by Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. About 300 MPs from the Congress, the INDIA bloc and other constituent parties took part. Police then detained Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. There was considerable jostling between the protesters and the police.
During the protest, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the BJP. He said, "We will not just fight the BJP, we will finish them completely. Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Shah and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat have ended democracy in the country." Gandhi also said that what had been done to the country was called treason and that no one would escape it.
According to Gandhi, about 300 Opposition MPs joined the protest. He said, "We are being stopped from leaving the Election Commission office."
On Tuesday, an unexpected situation arose during the INDIA bloc protest against the Election Commission. Rahul Gandhi and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra suddenly entered the premises of Akashvani Bhavan. During the protest, Opposition MPs were detained and taken to different police stations.
The atmosphere around the Election Commission grew more tense. The Rapid Action Force, police and emergency response teams are present at the commission's premises. Several NSUI workers who had reached Akashvani Bhavan were also detained.
Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera wrote in a post on X, "This morning, MPs of the INDIA alliance tried to march towards the Election Commission. The police forcibly stopped the MPs. Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and several other leaders are now sitting on a dharna on the All India Radio premises near the Election Commission office."
