Trump promises $5,000 to every adult American if Republicans win Congress in midterms

At a campaign rally in Alaska, US President Donald Trump said tariff revenue would fund a "Trump Dividend" if Republicans retain both houses of Congress.

US President Donald Trump has made a major promise ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. He has said that if the Republican Party retains control of both houses of Congress, the House of Representatives and the Senate, he will give $5,000 to every adult American citizen. In Indian currency, the amount works out to roughly Rs 4,75,000.

Trump was speaking at a campaign rally in Wasilla, Alaska, for Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. He called the proposed financial aid the "Trump Dividend". Trump said revenue from import duties (tariffs) would be used for the payment.

Trump said that if the Republican Party won the elections to both the House and the Senate, he would give $5,000 to all adult citizens of the United States. He also said a large amount of money was coming in from tariffs and that it would be used for this scheme.

Trump did not give details of when or how the money would be paid. He has also not said how much the scheme would cost. Congressional approval would be required to distribute such a payment.

At the rally, Trump also targeted the Democratic Party. He claimed that if the Democrats won the election, America would face an economic depression like that of 1929. He did not offer firm evidence to support the claim. Trump is campaigning for Republican candidates ahead of the elections on November 3.

Speaking about Iran, Trump said Tehran would not be allowed to have nuclear weapons. He also claimed that the war would end soon and that prices would then fall rapidly.

Referring to control of the strait and oil shipments, Trump said more oil was currently being transported than before the war began. He did not give further details on the claim.

Trump accused Canada of taking advantage of the United States for many years. He also claimed that the Democratic Party had let 25 million people into the country. He presented no evidence for the figure.

In addition, he signed pardons for two Alaska diesel mechanics who were convicted of violating the Clean Air Act by tampering with vehicle emission control systems. He criticised the case, saying people could face long prison terms for repairing vehicle engines.
