The demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has now reached Rashtrapati Bhavan. Leaders of the INDIA bloc are set to meet President Droupadi Murmu on this demand. According to sources, the President's office has fixed 8 pm on Friday for the meeting.

Earlier, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc leaders held a vigorous agitation in Delhi for three days, on October 6, 7 and 8. During the agitation, the opposition said clearly that it would not back down without securing Gyanesh Kumar's resignation.

The opposition alleges irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Questions are also being raised over the role of the Election Commission on the issue.

The delegation meeting the President will have ten members in all. They include Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee. The delegation is expected to raise the alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls and the demand for the Chief Election Commissioner's resignation before the President.

Today's schedule has also been set. According to the information available, all INDIA bloc MPs will gather in the Central Hall of Parliament at 5 pm on Friday. They will then meet President Droupadi Murmu at 8 pm.

After the three-day agitation, the opposition is now preparing to take its demand forward through the meeting with the President. Political circles are therefore watching closely what stand INDIA bloc leaders take at the meeting and what follows.

The demand for Gyanesh Kumar's resignation and the objections raised over the SIR process are likely to sharpen the confrontation between the ruling side and the opposition. Further, a CJP agitation is scheduled at Jantar Mantar tomorrow, October 10, which is expected to heat up the atmosphere in the capital further.
