New Delhi: The Congress has turned aggressive against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and will hold nationwide protests today, October 8. The party, which is in the Opposition, has declared the day a "black day" for Indian democracy.
The party has said extensive protests will be held at the state, district and taluka levels. Opposition MPs had earlier protested against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. During that protest, the police took action and the MPs were arrested. The decision has been taken to protest that police action and the arrest of the MPs.
On Wednesday, the party posted a message on the social media platform X. It directed state Congress committees, district Congress committees and taluka Congress committees to organise protests on October 8.
The message was issued by Congress general secretary K C Venugopal. It calls for extensive protests at the state, district and taluka or mandal levels on October 8, that is, at all levels from the state down to the taluka or mandal. The party has described the protest as extremely important. It has also urged all concerned to ensure immediate action.
