The political climate in the country is heated over the demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. A protest on the same demand had been announced at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai. However, before the protest began, police detained activists in different parts of Mumbai, according to information that emerged.

Tushar Gandhi, great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, was also detained by police. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray criticised the government over the incident.

Thackeray said a movement on the issue of SIR is under way across the country. He mentioned the detention of several people, including Abhijit Dipke and Saurabh Das. He alleged that Tushar Gandhi was on his way to a peaceful protest when he was detained in advance.

Reacting to the incidents, Thackeray said it is now certain that the BJP's rule is about to end. He also said the present struggle is "BJP versus Bharat". This is his political position, and his statement reflected anger against the government.

According to Thackeray, after Tushar Gandhi was detained, he and other leaders reached the D.N. Nagar police station. Tushar Gandhi was released afterwards, Thackeray said. He alleged that Gandhi was released only after being harassed through the day.

Thackeray said the allied parties have decided that whenever news comes of any worker or leader being detained, they will go there to help. He warned that if even a single person is touched, "we will not sit silent".

Questioning the detention of protesters, Thackeray asked why the government is so afraid of the young generation. He alleged that the country is in a situation like the Emergency and indicated that the protest would be intensified.

Meanwhile, the protests in several cities demanding Gyanesh Kumar's resignation have escalated the political conflict. All eyes are on the role of the police, the action taken against protesters and the opposition parties' next strategy.
