Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil has suspended an Assistant Police Inspector (API) of the Nagpur traffic branch after a video of alleged extortion involving the officer went viral on social media. API Shedge was posted with the Cotton Market traffic division. The action has caused a stir in the traffic department.

A video of API Shedge had been circulating on social media. It is claimed that he is seen allegedly taking money from an employee of a Sanjay Travels bus. Once the video surfaced, questions began to be raised about the officer's conduct and the functioning of the traffic department. Taking the matter seriously, the Commissioner suspended Shedge.

The questions are not limited to a single video. Allegations of extortion are also being raised over the movement of travel buses and other commercial vehicles in the Cotton Market area. It is alleged that, instead of action being taken against some vehicles that break rules, money allegedly changes hands. These allegations have yet to be independently verified.

After Shedge's suspension, the question is also being asked whether only one officer was involved in the alleged extortion or whether other personnel were too. Detailed information is yet to emerge on the amount of the alleged transactions, how long this had been going on and who else may be involved.

Following the Commissioner's action, discussion on accountability in the traffic department has intensified. All eyes are now on the further investigation. The facts that emerge will show whether any other officer or employee had a role. Until then, the claim that he is seen in the video and the allegations of extortion remain alleged, and can be confirmed only by the inquiry.

The suspension is the first step taken by the Commissioner on the questions raised after the viral video. The further investigation will determine how much truth there is in the allegations and who was involved. The action is also being discussed among motorists and travel bus operators in the Cotton Market area.
