A programme called "Samvad Setu" was held at Somaiya Polytechnic College in Chandrapur. It was organised to campaign for Sudhakar Kohale, the official BJP Mahayuti candidate in the Nagpur graduates' constituency. MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar was present. He interacted with graduate voters and appealed to them to elect Kohale by a majority on October 23.
BJP district president Harish Sharma, general secretary Dr Mangesh Gulwade, Somaiya Group president P. S. Ambatkar, vice-president Piyush Ambatkar, director Ankita Ambatkar and principal Liyakat Ali were also present. Shobhana, Razda Siddiqui, Zameer Shaikh, Nagaraju Yash Bangde and some others also attended.
Mungantiwar said the graduates' constituency election is different from other elections. According to him, the Indian Constitution has given graduates the opportunity to send their representative through the Legislative Council. He said a graduates' representative is not merely a member of the House. He is a link who discusses basic questions of society, including education, and prompts the government to take necessary decisions. He therefore asked voters to set aside caste and religion and vote after looking at the candidate's capability, experience and ability to raise issues.
On Kohale, Mungantiwar said he has experience of the Assembly and the ability to put graduates' issues across effectively. Mungantiwar expressed the view that if Kohale gets the chance to represent the graduates' constituency, issues related to education and graduates can be raised more forcefully.
Speaking on education, Mungantiwar said education is a major means of a person's progress and of change in society. According to him, educational facilities are necessary to give everyone a chance to move ahead. He said that as finance minister he had tried to get a government engineering college started in Chandrapur. An agriculture college was brought to Mul instead. A centre of SNDT for women's education is being built on 50 acres. A government nursing college has been sanctioned, and efforts are also on to bring a BDS college next year.
Mungantiwar said he is continuously trying to ensure that Chandrapur district advances rapidly in education, that students get good opportunities to study and that obstacles on the path to their future are removed. He assured that if students face any problem with their studies in future, he would stand firmly with them for their educational rights.
Mungantiwar also urged every graduate voter to cast their vote in the Nagpur graduates' constituency election on October 23. He appealed to voters to take special care while voting so that the vote does not become invalid and the ballot is marked correctly.
