The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a campaign to contact voters directly for the 2026 Nagpur division graduates' constituency election. A call centre has been set up at the party's Nagpur war room office, and 40,000 voters are being contacted from there every day. This shows the BJP has made strong preparations to win the election.

The constituency has been described as a traditional Congress stronghold. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari have an emotional bond with it. Fadnavis's father, Gangadharrao Fadnavis, used to be elected MLA from this constituency. Gadkari has also represented the constituency in the Maharashtra legislature. For this reason, the BJP has put its full strength into the campaign from day one.

Historically, the constituency remained with the BJP and the Jana Sangh for around 58 years. In 2020, however, the Congress won it by a big margin. The BJP had never expected such a heavy defeat in the constituency, and the loss stung the party badly. To avoid a repeat and to win the constituency back, the BJP has started its preparations this time as well.

The Congress, meanwhile, has announced three candidates for the Legislative Council elections. In the Nagpur graduates' constituency, the party has once again placed its trust in sitting MLA Abhijit Wanjari. Wanjari said the trust the Congress placed in him was expected. He also said that in this election it is not only the Congress in the field, but all like-minded organisations opposed to the government have taken the field for him.

The Congress has thus posed a big challenge to the BJP, which has not yet announced its candidate. It remains to be seen who takes up the challenge and how that person wins the seat for the BJP. Since Gadkari and Gangadharrao Fadnavis have represented this constituency, winning the seat is a matter of prestige for the BJP. The BJP is therefore also likely to announce a strong candidate of its own.
