Congress names three candidates for Legislative Council graduates and teachers polls

The Congress has announced a list of three candidates for the Legislative Council elections. The list has come out as election activity gathers pace. Campaigning for the graduates' and teachers' constituencies is under way in the state, and all political parties have begun moving.

Elections have been announced for the Nagpur Graduates, Amravati Teachers and Pune Teachers constituencies. Abhijit Wanjari has been renominated from the Nagpur Graduates constituency. Jayant Asgaonkar has also been renominated from the Pune Teachers constituency. Aditi Pohore has been named from the Amravati Teachers constituency, as expected. This ends the speculation over who would get the tickets.

Aspirants appear to be numerous in all the parties, and the Congress has now taken the lead. It will also be important to see when the other parties announce their candidates.

The full election schedule has also been given. The notification will be issued on September 29, 2026. The last date for filing nominations is October 6, 2026. Nominations will be scrutinised on October 7, 2026, and the last date for withdrawal is October 9, 2026. Polling will be held on October 23, 2026, from 8 am to 4 pm. Counting and results will follow on October 27, 2026.

Five graduates' and teachers' constituencies figure in this election. In the Aurangabad Graduates constituency, Satish Bhanudas Chavan (Nationalist Congress Party - Sharad Pawar faction / MVA) is listed as the former MLC. In the Pune Graduates constituency, Arun Ganpati Lad (Nationalist Congress Party - Sharad Pawar faction / MVA) is the former MLC. In Nagpur Graduates, Abhijit Govindrao Wanjari (Congress) is the former MLC.

In the Amravati Teachers constituency, Kiran Ramrao Sarnaik (Shiv Sena - Shinde faction) is the former MLC. In the Pune Teachers constituency, Jayant Dinkar Asgaonkar (Congress) is the former MLC. Elections will be held in all five constituencies.
