Activity has begun for the Legislative Council elections from the state's teachers' and graduates' constituencies (MLC Election 2026). After the poll schedule was announced, political parties are sounding out candidates, and aspirants have stepped up preparations in their constituencies. The Congress has now announced Aditi Pohare's candidature for the Amravati teachers' constituency.

Pohare joined the Congress at Tilak Bhavan in Mumbai in the presence of the party's Maharashtra in-charge Dr Sirivella Prasad and state president Harshwardhan Sapkal. On the occasion, Congress leader Yashomati Thakur announced that Pohare would be given the party ticket from the Amravati teachers' constituency.

Pohare has been a professor in engineering education. She has studied BE in civil engineering, ME in structural design and MA in psychology. Her profile also lists experience of teaching at a government engineering college.

Her family is also associated with politics and education. She is the daughter of Harshwardhan alias Bhaiyyasaheb Deshmukh, president of the Shri Shivaji Shikshan Sanstha and a former minister of state. Her father-in-law, Prakash Pohare, is founder-editor of 'Deshonnati' and is known for his association with the farmers' movement.

The Amravati teachers' constituency covers five districts: Amravati, Akola, Buldhana, Washim and Yavatmal. It is claimed that voters associated with the Shri Shivaji Shikshan Sanstha are significant in number in this constituency.

Meanwhile, discussion on seat-sharing in the Mahayuti has intensified. A tussle is reportedly under way between the BJP and the Shiv Sena over the Pune teachers' seat. According to available information, the Sambhajinagar seat is likely to go to the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party, the Amravati teachers' constituency to the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena, and the Nagpur graduates' and Pune graduates' seats to the BJP. Everyone is awaiting the final decision on the Pune teachers' constituency.

The election schedule is as follows. The notification was issued on September 29, 2026. The last date for filing nominations is October 6, 2026, scrutiny will be held on October 7, and the last date for withdrawal is October 9, 2026. Polling will be held on October 23, 2026, from 8 am to 4 pm, and counting will take place on October 27, 2026.
