Former Khaparkheda sarpanch dies after attack with iron rod; son Ankit Kapse detained

A quarrel between a father and son over the son's drinking habit ended in a death in the Khaparkheda police station area of Nagpur district. Ankit Kapse, 30, is alleged to have attacked his 51-year-old father, Dharmendra Kapse, with an iron tommy bar. Dharmendra Kapse died of serious injuries. He was a former sarpanch of the village.
The accused son had fled the spot after the incident. Crime Branch teams traced him through his mobile phone location and took him into custody.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place in the Babulkheda area, which falls under the Chicholi gram panchayat. Ankit Kapse is said to have been addicted to alcohol, and he often argued with his parents over it.
On Thursday morning, Dharmendra Kapse was sitting at the house of his neighbour, Nimbkar. Ankit is alleged to have arrived at that moment and got into a dispute with his father over his drinking. The two are said to have first come to blows. Ankit then went home and returned with an iron tommy bar.
He is alleged to have attacked his father with the same bar on returning. Dharmendra Kapse suffered serious injuries in the attack and died. The accused then ran away.
Khaparkheda police began an investigation as soon as they were informed. Because of the seriousness of the case, Crime Branch Unit-6 and Unit-3 teams also joined the search for the accused.
Acting on the mobile location, police took Ankit Kapse into custody. DCP Ramesh Dhumal inspected the spot. Police have found in the preliminary investigation that the incident stems from a family dispute over the drinking habit.
Khaparkheda police are continuing the investigation. Police say the remaining facts of the incident can be confirmed only once the probe is complete.
