Nagpur: Police have turned strict on private cabins in cafes, hotels and pubs. Fourteen Crime Branch teams ran a special inspection drive over two days and checked 34 cafes. Action was taken against 25 cafes for violations of the rules. Young men and women were found in the private cabins of 17 cafes, and action was taken against 23 people, including the cafe operators, at the respective police stations. The young men and women found as customers were let off with a warning.
The city police ran the drive on October 8 and 9 on the directions of Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil. Police had received complaints that private rooms were being provided in cafes, hotels and pubs, and that suspicious activities were taking place there. The Police Commissioner then issued a special notification directing establishments to operate according to the rules and follow the prescribed instructions.
Under this, Crime Branch teams checked 34 cafes. Five were found closed, while nothing objectionable was found in four. Action was taken against the remaining 25 cafes for private cabins and other irregularities. During the drive, police examined whether CCTV cameras were available, how private cabins were arranged, and whether the Police Commissioner's orders were being followed.
Cases were registered at the respective police stations under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against operators who violated the rules. The notification will remain in force until December 6, 2026. The drive will continue in the coming days.
