A serious case of a labourer being held captive and beaten has come to light in the Beltarodi area of Nagpur. Beltarodi police have arrested three accused in the case. All three were produced in court on Thursday afternoon.
According to the police, the victim is Amol Kinnake, 42. He works at a shop called Sonam Kitchen Centre in Somwar Bazaar in Beltarodi and lives on the pavement. Another man, Alok Shende, also works at the same shop.
On Wednesday night, Amol was sleeping on the pavement near the shop as usual. Alok then arrived with two associates, Jayprakash alias Thapa Dayali, a resident of Beltarodi, and Sanket Gaikwad, a resident of Kaikadi Nagar. The three allegedly accused Amol of stealing from the shop and tried to extort Rs 3,000 from him.
Amol flatly denied the theft, but the accused were not willing to listen. He was allegedly threatened and intimidated. When Amol still did not confess, the three dragged him into the shop and confined him in a room.
According to the allegations, the accused tied Amol's feet with a dupatta in the room and beat him while he hung upside down. He was tortured continuously. The accused also made a video of the assault. It is said that all this continued from late night until the early hours.
After enduring this through the night, Amol got a chance to escape when the three accused fell asleep. He freed himself, left the place and went straight to the police, where he narrated his entire ordeal.
On Amol's complaint, police registered a case and arrested Alok Shende, Jayprakash alias Thapa Dayali and Sanket Gaikwad.
According to the police, Alok Shende and Jayprakash alias Thapa Dayali, but not Sanket Gaikwad, have had serious criminal cases registered against them earlier. Police are investigating the case further and are now pursuing legal action. The incident has caused concern in the area.
