A quarrel over rent money in the Yashodhara Nagar police station area of Nagpur escalated into an assault on a lawyer. Four people, including a couple, allegedly attacked the lawyer. On the basis of a complaint, police have registered a case against all four accused and arrested one of them. Further investigation is under way.

According to preliminary information from the police, the injured lawyer is Sujal Balram Mishra, 32, a resident of Joshipura in Binaki Mangalwari. Alankar Badgujar is said to live with his family as a tenant in Mishra's house. A dispute had arisen between the two sides over the rent.

Alankar had reportedly asked Mishra's mother to return Rs 12,000 paid as rent. When Mishra learnt of this, he asked Alankar why he was demanding the money back. This led to an argument between the two, and the quarrel over the money escalated until it turned physical.

It is alleged that during the quarrel, four people, including the couple, confronted Mishra and beat him. One accused is said to have attacked Mishra with a small knife attached to a key ring, while the others kicked and punched him. The lawyer was injured in the attack.

Tension spread in the area after the sudden attack. Police began action on receiving Mishra's complaint. However, the role of each accused in the incident and the circumstances in which the quarrel escalated will become clear only after the police investigation.

After receiving the complaint, Yashodhara Nagar police registered a case against the four, including the couple, and arrested one accused. The role of the remaining accused and other aspects of the incident are being investigated.

Police are also trying to find out why the dispute grew when the rent money was demanded back, and whether there was any tension between the two sides before the incident. Further action will be taken on the basis of the available evidence and the statements of those concerned. Yashodhara Nagar police are currently investigating the case.
