Two arrested in Nagpur for demanding Rs 50,000 extortion from Sadar businessman, threatening him with pistol

Two men have been arrested in Nagpur's Sadar police station area on charges of demanding Rs 50,000 in extortion from a businessman in the name of property dealing. The accused allegedly blocked the businessman's car, assaulted him and threatened to kill him by showing a pistol. Sadar police have arrested two of the accused, while the role of two other associates is being investigated.
According to police, those arrested are Lakhan Hiranwar, a resident of Dharampeth, and Akash Katariya, a resident of Gawalipura in Sadar. Police investigation has found that cases of murder and under the NDPS Act are already registered against Lakhan. Akash is said to have a record of 11 criminal cases, including assault, illegal possession of arms and molestation.
The incident took place on the evening of September 11. Vishal Mishra, a 40-year-old businessman from Sadar, was sitting in a car talking with a friend near the Sulabh toilet at Gandhi Chowk. Lakhan Hiranwar, Akash Katariya and two of their associates reached the spot. They allegedly blocked the car and demanded Rs 50,000 from the businessman for allowing him to carry out property dealing.
According to the complaint, when Mishra refused to pay the amount, the accused beat him with their hands and fists. It is also alleged that a pistol was pulled out and he was threatened with death. The businessman was left terrified by the sudden incident. He then filed a complaint at Sadar police station.
On receiving the complaint, police began an investigation. During the probe, they received a tip-off about the accused, on the basis of which police acted in the Dharampeth area and arrested Lakhan Hiranwar and Akash Katariya.
Police are now investigating the role of the remaining two accused in the case. Further investigation continues into the allegations of demanding money in the name of property dealing, assaulting the businessman and threatening him with a pistol.
