Nagpur: Gittikhadan police seize country-made firearm, two live cartridges; man held

Gittikhadan police in Nagpur seized a country-made firearm and two live cartridges from a suspect during a drive against people with criminal tendencies in the city. Vedprakash Lalji Mishra (35) has been arrested. The seized items, a country-made firearm with magazine and two live cartridges, are valued at Rs 25,600.
According to police, a team from Gittikhadan police station was conducting a drive to trace criminals between 1 am and 2 am on October 10, 2026. During this, police received reliable information that a man living near the Radhakrishna temple in the Surendragad area had a firearm.
Acting on the tip-off, police rushed to Mishra's house. A search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses turned up an iron country-made firearm with a magazine and two live cartridges under the pillow on the bed in his bedroom. Police immediately seized the items and took the accused into custody.
A case has been registered at Gittikhadan police station under Sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act and Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, on the grounds that the firearm and live cartridges were found with the accused and that he violated a prohibitory order. Police are investigating the purpose for which the firearm was to be used, among other aspects.
The action was carried out under the guidance of senior officers: Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Police (North Division) Vinita Sahu, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Annapurna Singh and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sadar Division) Shivaji Gaikwad.
The officers and staff who took part in the operation included Senior Police Inspector Sarang Mirashi, Assistant Police Inspector Lalpalwale, Sub-Inspector Khushal Rathod, head constables Sandeep Changole and Balkrishna Rathod, and police constable Ramesh Banjara.
