Nagpur: Relatives of a young girl who died at a private hospital in Dhantoli, enraged by her death, vandalised the hospital and assaulted the doctor and his associates. Dhantoli police have registered a case of rioting and begun an investigation.
Dr Vinod Gandhi runs a hospital in Dhantoli. He has known the accused, Anand Patil, for 25 to 30 years and treats the children of Patil's family. Patil's three-and-a-half-year-old daughter had been under Dr Gandhi's care since birth. On the afternoon of October 8, Patil admitted her to Dr Gandhi's hospital for treatment. A few hours later, the girl died.
On learning of her death, Patil and his relatives flew into a rage. They alleged that the girl died because of negligence in treatment. They said they had brought her to Dr Gandhi two days earlier, when he did not admit her, and that this cost her her life.
Dr Gandhi tried to calm Patil. Patil and his relatives, however, began creating a commotion in the hospital. They assaulted Dr Gandhi, beat and threatened his other associates, and threatened to kill his family members. Tension gripped the hospital.
Dr Gandhi informed Dhantoli police, who reached the spot and calmed Patil and his relatives. On Dr Gandhi's complaint, police have registered a case under sections of the BNS and the Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions Act, and begun an investigation.
