Panchnama work to assess crop losses caused by drought has begun in Chandrapur taluka. The taluka is on the list of drought-affected talukas released by the government, after which the survey of Kharif crop losses was started.

Various crops were sown on about 17,000 hectares in the taluka during the Kharif season. Crops across this entire area will be inspected in the field, and panchnamas will be prepared afterwards.

The panchnamas are being prepared jointly by the village revenue officer, the gram panchayat officer and the agriculture assistant. The entire process will be completed in the presence of farmers, so that no farmer is left out of the panchnama.

At Valni, Sub-Divisional Officer Vishalkumar Meshram inspected a damaged paddy crop in the field of farmer Santosh Atram. Tehsildar Vijay Pawar, Naib Tehsildar Omkar Thakre, Taluka Agriculture Officer Aniket Mane, Circle Officer Vishal Kurewar and Talathi Ramesh Jhite were present. Police Patil Ashok Meshram and e-peek pahani surveyor Vishal Gedam were also there, as were farmers Sukhdev Pendram, Vanpal Gedam and Rohit Pendram.

The exercise aims to ensure an accurate and firm record of crop losses to farmers in the drought, that no affected farmer is missed, and that precise information reaches the government. The work is being carried out in coordination between the revenue, rural development and agriculture departments. The teams will visit the fields, inspect the crops and complete the survey and panchnama process in front of the farmers.

To complete the work in a planned and speedy manner, 11 squad heads have been appointed in Chandrapur taluka. Circle officers and the taluka agriculture officer have been given the responsibility of squad heads. Under their supervision, joint teams in the villages concerned will survey field losses and prepare panchnamas.

To keep the process transparent, record actual losses accurately and gather details of eligible farmers properly, the presence of the farmers concerned will be ensured during the panchnama. Necessary information on the present condition of the crops and the losses will be recorded during the survey.

After the joint teams complete the panchnamas, the lists prepared will be put up at the chavdi of the village concerned. This will let farmers see in their own village whether their losses have been recorded in the panchnama.
