Amid nationwide controversy over the Election Commission's functioning, with the opposition repeatedly targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's role, Raj Thackeray has taken an aggressive stance against the Election Commission and Gyanesh Kumar, announcing a large public march.

Raj Thackeray had earlier questioned the Election Commission's functioning through his social media posts. In a new post, he said the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) faction will hold a big public march in Mumbai on October 4.

On his official X account, Raj Thackeray wrote that the Election Commission, under Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, is functioning as if it were a branch of the country's ruling party. He said that in protest against the "gross fraud" committed against voters in the name of "SIR", the MNS and the Shiv Sena will hold a public march in Mumbai on October 4, 2026.

Raj Thackeray further said that although the MNS and Shiv Sena have taken the initiative in organising this march, it is a march of the people, and to ensure it is not confined to one party but becomes the voice of the entire political system and the public, he will talk to all political parties about joining the march.

In his post, Raj Thackeray appealed to the people of Maharashtra to join the march in large numbers. He said the time and venue of the march would be announced soon. He said, "Let us meet at this public march against SIR then. Come, let us come together to save the country's democracy and its Constitution."

At the end of his social media post, Raj Thackeray signed off writing "Raj Thackeray - Uddhav Thackeray", making clear that the two Thackeray brothers are together in this fight. Also on the morning of September 26, Sanjay Raut met Raj Thackeray, indicating important talks between the two over the upcoming agitation. Attention now turns to how much political and public support this Mumbai march on October 4 receives.
