A youth has been accused of grabbing the collar of a traffic policeman's uniform and pushing him at Santoshi Mata Chowk in Dhule city on Monday morning. The youth was riding a two-wheeler while talking on a mobile phone and the police had stopped him. He flared up over this, the police complaint says.

The suspect has been named as Mohan Sanjay Ghadge, 21, a resident of Wakharkar Nagar behind Cotton Market in Dhule. A case of obstructing a public servant in discharge of duty has been registered against him at Shahar police station.

According to the information available, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ravindra Thakre and Police Constable Rahul Chaudhari of the traffic branch were posted at Santoshi Mata Chowk on Monday morning to manage traffic. At around 10.45 am, Ghadge was passing through on a two-wheeler, registration MH 18 BY 3445, while talking on his mobile phone.

Thakre stopped him for violating traffic rules. The complaint says this angered Ghadge. He took out his mobile phone and began filming. He also shouted a challenge: "Impose a fine of Rs 5,000 on my vehicle, file whatever case you want to file."

It is alleged that as the argument escalated, Ghadge grabbed Thakre's uniform collar and pushed him. Seeing this, other policemen rushed to help. They detained Ghadge and took him to Shahar police station.

The case against Ghadge for obstructing a public servant in discharge of duty has been registered on the complaint of traffic branch ASI Ravindra Thakre, that is, on the basis of a complaint by the police at Shahar police station.

What began with a traffic violation escalated into an argument with a policeman, causing a brief commotion in the Santoshi Mata Chowk area. The charges against Ghadge are, for now, only at the level of a complaint and allegation.
