Nagpur DCP Rishikesh Singareddy to Receive Union Home Minister's Medal for Solving Nanded Murder Case

Four Nagpur police and forensic officials have been selected for the Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Iंवेस्तिगतिओन, announced by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on October 31. The awardees include DCP Rishikesh Singareddy, Dr Vijay Thakre, Police Inspector Prabhavati Ekure and Police Inspector Ritesh Aher. The medal recognises outstanding contributions in investigation, special operations, intelligence and forensic science.

20-Day Investigation Exposed International Terror Network

DCP Rishikesh Singareddy has been recognised for leading investigation into a blind murder case in Nanded. While serving as Superintendent of Police with the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar ATS, he helped solve the February 10, 2025 shooting murder within just 20 days. The investigation exposed alleged links to the banned Khalistani outfit Babbar Khalsa International and the network of Pakistan-based terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda and Happy Passia. Of the 14 accused, 10 were arrested, while lookout circulars were issued against four accused believed to be abroad. The ATS coordinated with the NIA, Punjab Police and intelligence agencies.

Investigation into Threats Against Nitin Gadkari

Police Inspector Prabhavati Ekure played a key role in investigating the January 14, 2023 threat calls to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari's Nagpur public relations office. The caller demanded Rs 100 crore and threatened to kill the minister. The investigation traced the calls to gangster Jayesh Kantha alias Jayesh Pujari, who allegedly used an illegally operated mobile phone from Belagavi jail. Further investigation revealed links to Lashkar-e-Taiba operative Afser Pasha. Inspector Ritesh Aher also made an important contribution to the case, with ATS and NIA coordination.

Dr Vijay Thakre Recognised for Forensic Science

Dr Vijay Thakre, currently Director of the State Forensic Science Laboratories, has been selected for his contribution to strengthening forensic science and the use of scientific evidence in criminal investigations.

The recognition highlights the work of Nagpur's police and forensic officials in complex criminal investigations and national security-related cases.
