Two brothers held within 24 hours of Ahilyanagar murder of 55-year-old man over bike scrape

Tofkhana police have arrested the two main accused in the murder of a 55-year-old man on Balikashram Road in Ahilyanagar within 24 hours of the crime. The man was attacked with a sharp weapon in front of the gate behind New Arts College, and the killing had caused alarm in the area.

The arrested men are Suraj Ravi Sonawane and Prem alias Sonulya Ravi Sonawane. Both have been brought to Tofkhana police station, where police are questioning them closely on why and how the murder took place.

According to the information available, the deceased, Ravindra Rambhau Chavan, was 55 and lived in Bhingardive Mala, Savedi. He was the father of Mandhan Ravindra Chavan. At about 4.30 pm on October 7, he was riding past the Asian Food Court on Balikashram Road when his motorcycle brushed the accused's motorcycle. One of the accused's sandals broke in the incident.

The accused flew into a rage over this minor matter. Suraj Ravi Sonawane, Prem alias Sonulya Sonawane and some of their associates attacked Chavan on the back and arm with a sharp weapon. Chavan was critically injured and died during treatment. A murder case was registered at Tofkhana police station.

Given the seriousness of the case, Superintendent of Police Mumakka Sudarshan, Additional Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Kalubarme and Nagar city Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dilip Tiparse reached the spot immediately and took stock of the situation.

Under the guidance of Tofkhana police station Inspector Balaji Vaidya, police used technical investigation to catch both accused within 24 hours. Tofkhana police are being widely praised for the quick arrests.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon. Chavan was the father of a supporter of MLA Sangram Jagtap. People in the city were therefore keen to know what had happened and why. Residents also expressed surprise that a person could be killed merely over a motorcycle brush.

The deceased's relatives had also warned of an agitation, and MLA Jagtap had also taken note of the case. Against this backdrop, residents expressed relief and satisfaction at the arrest of the accused within 24 hours.
