Facilities are being set up for followers at the Deekshabhoomi premises in Nagpur district for Dhammachakra Pravartan Din. Collector Kumar Ashirwad inspected the ongoing works and reviewed progress.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Collector had sent a proposal of Rs 8.92 crore to provide the facilities followers need at Deekshabhoomi. The Chief Minister has approved the proposal.
With this fund, modern and well-equipped arrangements are being made for the first time this year. The Collector directed the departments concerned to coordinate with one another and complete all works on time. The directions were given so that followers coming from across the country get good facilities.
Deputy Commissioner of Police S. Rushikesh Reddy, Additional Collector Pravin Mahire and Social Welfare Department Assistant Commissioner Sukeshini Telgote were present at the meeting. Officials of the departments concerned, including the Public Works Department and Mahavitaran, and members of the Deekshabhoomi Smarak Samiti also took part.
The meeting discussed in detail how the various facilities being prepared for followers would be put into practice. Dussehra falls on October 20 this year, so the largest crowds at Deekshabhoomi are expected between October 18 and 21.
CCTV cameras will be installed to keep watch on the Deekshabhoomi premises round the clock. Dedicated sanitation workers will be deployed to keep the area clean.
Directions have been given to ensure that all basic facilities are available between October 18 and 22 for lakhs of Buddhist followers arriving from across the country. All departments have also been told to work in coordination with each other.
A control room of the municipal corporation will be set up for the convenience of citizens and for emergency assistance. Plans have been made to keep cleanliness, power supply, drinking water, toilets and transport services running smoothly across the premises.
To look after the health of followers, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation will open temporary health centres at various places. Health, cleanliness and security will all receive attention in the preparations.
