Mumbai, October 8, 2026: Rail commuters in the Kalyan-Dombivli area struggle with many problems on their daily journey. The rush to board locals at peak hours, delays and safety concerns have become a daily trouble for those travelling to Mumbai. Against this backdrop, BJP Maharashtra state president and MLA Ravindra Chavan has taken the initiative.
Chavan held an important meeting with Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Hiresh Meena at the Central Railway headquarters at CST in Mumbai. The meeting followed a visit on September 26 by representatives of railway passenger associations, who placed their problems and several demands before Chavan. The meeting with the railway administration was arranged after that.
The biggest demand put forward was for a local to run towards Mumbai every hour during peak hours from Nilje railway station. It is hoped the service would give commuters in the area more options for travel. However, a final decision on starting the service is yet to be taken.
The meeting also raised the demand for locals to run directly towards Mumbai during peak hours from Dombivli and Diva railway stations. Large numbers of commuters travel to Mumbai from these areas every day, so the question of providing additional or more convenient services to ease the overcrowding in locals has become important.
The meeting also discussed the problems commuters face daily: delays in local trains, passenger safety and proper management of crowds. To find solutions to these problems at the earliest, Chavan gave the Central Railway administration the necessary instructions.
The demands matter for rail commuters in Kalyan-Dombivli and nearby areas. Peak-hour travel is expected to become easier if a regular local service starts from Nilje station and more direct Mumbai-bound locals run from Dombivli and Diva stations.
Satish Singh was present at the meeting on behalf of the Lodha Palava Casa Rio and Casa Rio Gold Co-operative Housing Societies Federation. Commuters in the area are now watching what the railway administration decides on these demands and what steps it takes to resolve their problems.
