Nagpur: Two men were injured in a knife attack that began over a petty dispute about Rs 4,000 during divorce settlement talks. The incident took place at the Sadar police station premises.
Two parties from Amravati and Yavatmal were in a dispute over a divorce. At 5 pm on October 5, members of both sides were negotiating a settlement over the jewellery and money exchanged in the marriage, on the footpath in front of the District Collector's office.
During the talks, the daughter of complainant Suman Pusate's sister demanded the return of Rs 4,000 that her father had given for a necklace. Her husband returned the money. The husband's sister then allegedly stared at her, which heated up the discussion. The two women began to argue over the staring, and the dispute soon escalated.
Accused Mayur Bhagat pulled out a knife and attacked. Ravindra Lohkare was stabbed on the head, while Ranganath Lohkare, who came to intervene, was stabbed in the abdomen. Others then also beat up both men, which created tension at the spot.
Sadar police have registered a case against seven accused and arrested four of them: Mayur Bhagat, Mukesh Bhagat, Shailesh Wahane and a man identified as Gajre.
