Sarnaik: GR process underway to help drought-hit farmers, relief soon
Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik says a government resolution to give farmers financial relief is being processed as drought-like conditions grip parts of Maharashtra.
Drought-like conditions persist in several parts of Maharashtra, including Marathwada and Vidarbha, and affected farmers are hoping for relief soon. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said the process of issuing the government resolution (GR) needed to give farmers financial relief is currently underway.
Expressing concern over the condition of farmers in the state, Sarnaik said the situation is serious in several parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha, and farmers in other parts of the state are also facing difficulties. He made clear that the state government stands with farmers in such circumstances.
Earlier, while reviewing the situation in Dharashiv district, it emerged that a long gap in rainfall had caused heavy damage to kharif crops. Given the water shortage, falling groundwater levels and crop damage, Sarnaik had directed the administration to plan carefully. He had also said that on 22 September, orders were given to begin panchnama surveys at sites of crop damage. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had also said on 23 September that the government stands with farmers and necessary help will be provided.
According to Sarnaik, the chief minister, deputy chief ministers and ministers are visiting different talukas to assess the situation, and efforts are on to get help to affected farmers as quickly as possible.
On the occasion of Ganesh Visarjan, Sarnaik prayed to Ganpati Bappa to lift the crisis facing Maharashtra and its farmers. He expressed confidence that farmers should not lose heart, that the government is with them, and that all possible help will be given.
Asked about a matter concerning Gyanesh Kumar, Sarnaik declined to comment, saying he had so far learnt of it only through the media and it would not be right to react without understanding the full facts.
