Harshvardhan Sapkal attacks government over drought in Buldhana, seeks urgent help
Congress state chief Harshvardhan Sapkal inspected drought-hit farms in Buldhana and demanded immediate relief for farmers
Uneven rainfall in Maharashtra has left farmers in distress, with crops in many parts of Buldhana district in very poor condition, Congress state president Harshvardhan Sapkal said. He personally visited farmers' fields to inspect the situation before launching a direct attack on the government.
According to Sapkal, rain has been absent for the last 40 to 45 days, causing crops to dry up. He alleged that while farmers are in crisis, the government is spending its time in meetings and discussions. He asked, "What auspicious moment is the government waiting for to help farmers?"
Sapkal said a young farmer in Buldhana district has decided to destroy his 20-acre soybean crop. The farmer had requested the chief minister and ministers to personally visit and see the condition of his field, but no one came, Sapkal claimed.
Sapkal also targeted the government by pointing out that the agriculture minister, during a visit to Buldhana district, did not meet this farmer either. He said, "The farmer looks to the government as his guardian with hope, but the government does not care about them."
To ensure farmers get immediate relief, Sapkal put forward concrete demands: financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh per hectare, waiver of school and college fees for farmers' children, and a blanket loan waiver.
Sapkal also said the Congress party is running a satyagraha and village-level agitation over the farmers' issue. He warned that if the government does not announce immediate help, the agitation will be intensified.
Sapkal also appealed to farmers not to lose courage. "Do not take the final step of suicide," he said, urging farmers to remain patient during this difficult time. Farmers and political circles are now watching what decision the state government takes on Sapkal's demands.
