Rohit Pawar taunts Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar over drought visits in Beed
NCP-SP MLA Rohit Pawar led a protest in Beed demanding Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar tour drought-hit areas and give farmers immediate financial help.
A protest march was held in Beed in the presence of Nationalist Congress Party Sharadchandra Pawar faction MLA Rohit Pawar. During the march, Pawar targeted Beed's guardian minister and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, saying that amid drought-like conditions she should visit the affected areas instead of making only paper tours, inspect the drought-hit regions and immediately announce concrete financial assistance for farmers.
The protest march, led by Rohit Pawar, was held in front of the collector's office in Beed. Speaking to the media, Pawar said Marathwada was facing drought-like conditions and that the government should give farmers assistance of Rs 50,000 per hectare. He said Sunetra Pawar, being the state's Deputy Chief Minister, must visit the area. Pawar said that minister Bharne Mama was touring the area, but when farmers questioned him, he said he had no authority. Pawar asked what was the point of making someone a minister if they had no authority. He taunted that if the government still had any self-respect left, it should quit and take to the streets. Pawar also advised fighting on behalf of the people and bringing the government to its knees to secure help for farmers.
Rohit Pawar also said that Deputy Chief Minister and Beed guardian minister Sunetra Pawar should visit the drought-hit areas and understand farmers' hardships. Taking a dig at Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, he said the Chief Minister was indeed touring, but with barricades and metal detectors, and that such a drama of a visit would not work. He said instead of doing this, the Chief Minister should go home, sit in air-conditioning and stay in his office. Pawar said his demand was that farmers be given assistance of Rs 50,000 per hectare and labourers Rs 25,000, and that the agitation would continue until this demand was met.
Earlier, MLA Rohit Pawar had taken stock of the drought situation in Ambad taluka of Jalna district. He visited fields in the Domegaon and Doongaon areas, inspected crops and spoke to farmers about their problems. Pawar was seen discussing issues with farmers on the field bunds. He took stock of the impact of the lack of rain on kharif crops, the extent of crop damage, and the various difficulties facing farmers. Pawar said that after assessing the drought situation in Ambad taluka, he would convey farmers' problems to the government.
