Absconding accused in Beltarodi mangalsutra robbery arrested from Beed
Crime Branch Unit 4 arrested Deepak Atpale, 21, from Beed district; he was wanted for robbing an elderly woman at knifepoint in Nagpur.
Police have arrested the second absconding accused in the case of a mangalsutra robbed at knifepoint from an elderly woman after entering her house in Nagpur's Beltarodi police station area. Crime Branch Unit 4 arrested him from Beed district. He has been identified as Deepak Atpale (21), a resident of Mategaon village, Georai, Beed district. After his arrest he was handed over to Beltarodi police for further action.
The incident took place on September 29. Usha Devidas Dharmik (60), who lives in Model Mill Society, was alone at home at the time. Two miscreants forced their way into her house. They threatened to kill her at knifepoint, snatched the gold mangalsutra from her neck and fled on a two-wheeler.
On learning of the incident, people in the neighbourhood chased the miscreants. They caught one of the accused, Sumedh alias Parag Gajbhiye, and beat him severely. He was admitted to a medical hospital in serious condition but died during treatment. His accomplice had managed to escape from the spot.
Beltarodi police and a Crime Branch team were both investigating the case. During the probe, Crime Branch Unit 4 received reliable information that the absconding accused, Deepak Atpale, was hiding in the Chakalamba police station area of Beed district. Acting on this, the team reached Beed and took him into custody.
After questioning, the accused has been handed over to Beltarodi police. Police are now questioning him about his role in the crime, including where the robbed mangalsutra is and which vehicle was used in the crime, among other aspects.
The action was taken under the guidance of Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajendra Dabhade, DCP (Detection) Deepak Agrawal and ACP Vaibhav Jadhav.
Police Inspector Sanjivani Thorat, API Vaibhav Barange and PSI Jiteshachari Arvelli played key roles in the operation. Head constables Atul Chate, Bhagwatikumar Thakur, Ajay Yadav, Nilesh Dhone, Devendra Navghare, Abhishek Shanivare, Purushottam Jagnade, Amaldar Govind Deshmukh and driver head constable Laxman Kalamkar were also part of the team.
