The INDIA bloc's protest in Delhi, demanding that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resign, entered its third consecutive day on October 8. Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has taken to the streets with MPs and workers of the alliance. An earlier, strong protest had been held by the All India Students Association. The Congress has now also begun a strong agitation, and the demand for Kumar's resignation has again set off turmoil in Delhi.

On Thursday, INDIA bloc MPs headed towards Rajghat with Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi said nearly 300 MPs would protest peacefully there, demanding Kumar's resignation. Delhi Police had detained Gandhi on each of the previous two days. He has nevertheless maintained his aggressive stance on the third day as well.

The protest began on Tuesday, when Gandhi and several MPs set out towards the Election Commission's office. After police stopped them, Gandhi staged a sit-in near Akashvani Bhavan. About eight hours later, police detained Gandhi and the protesting MPs.

On the second day, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge hosted a lunch for INDIA bloc MPs. The MPs then set out towards Jantar Mantar, but police stopped them again. Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and several other MPs were detained this time.

Gandhi has alleged that for the past two days the government has not allowed them to protest. He also made a grave allegation that Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Gyanesh Kumar had destroyed democracy in the country through "vote chori". These are Gandhi's allegations.

Gandhi also warned that those involved would certainly be punished. The protest in Delhi over the demand for Kumar's resignation appears likely to intensify further.
