Mumbai: To give the state's unemployed young men and women a chance at jobs, the employment and self-employment department of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee organised a job fair at Tilak Bhavan today. The fair drew a large and spontaneous response from young people.

More than 30 companies took part. In all, 846 interviews were held over the day. Of these, 486 job offers were made, while 289 candidates were shortlisted for further selection.

The fair was inaugurated in the morning by senior Congress leader and Legislative Council member Bhai Jagtap. In the evening, it concluded in the presence of senior Congress leader Charanjit Singh Sapra.

A notable feature of the fair was that about 70 per cent of the candidates were women, while 99 per cent of the candidates were from Gen Z. The large share of women and the response from young people showed how much hope young men and women place in employment opportunities.

Dr Rupa Madkaikar, Dr Nidhi Trivedi and Mrs Meghna counselled a total of 110 candidates. The guidance sought to answer candidates' career-related questions, help them identify their strengths and prepare them better for the job process.

The fair was completed successfully with the cooperation of Adv. Ganesh Patil, senior vice-president of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, vice-president Rajan Bhosale and state general secretary Adv. Sandesh Kondvilkar. Among the dignitaries present were former MP Kumar Ketkar, economist Prof. Sanjeev Chandorkar, head of the economics department Vishwas Utagi, senior Congress leaders Ajinkya Desai and Dr Gajanan Desai, senior labour leader Mohan Tiwari, employment and self-employment department vice-president Megha Kulkarni and state coordinator Amol Mahadik.

Dhananjay Shinde said that, following the response to the Mumbai fair, similar job fairs are planned in various cities and districts of Maharashtra, including Pune, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nagpur, Amravati, Kolhapur and Nanded.
