Heat wave in Konkan-Goa, yellow alert for five districts; Amravati hottest at 38.8 degrees

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri, while Amravati recorded the state's highest maximum of 38.8 degrees Celsius.

Maharashtra's weather is changing fast, and the heat is building in parts of the state. A heat wave in the Konkan-Goa region in particular has left people struggling with humidity and heat. Taking the situation seriously, the India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Konkan districts.

Given the rising temperatures and the hazard of hot, humid weather, a yellow alert has been issued for key coastal districts: Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri. Maximum temperatures are expected to climb in these districts. The administration has appealed to people to take precautions when stepping out, especially in the afternoon.

Temperatures recorded over the past 24 hours show two extremes across Vidarbha and the Ghat areas. The state's highest maximum temperature, 38.8 degrees Celsius, was recorded at Amravati in Vidarbha. At the other end, the hill station of Mahabaleshwar recorded the state's lowest minimum, 17.9 degrees Celsius, and the chill was felt there.

Maximum temperatures recorded over the past 24 hours (in degrees Celsius) were: Mumbai 36.5, Santacruz 37.6, Alibag 35.0, Ratnagiri 38.7, Panaji 35 and Dahanu 35. Pune recorded 35.2, Jalgaon 37.9, Kolhapur 34.2, Mahabaleshwar 27.2, Malegaon 38.4 and Nashik 35.6.

Sangli recorded 35.3, Satara 35.6, Solapur 37.7, Dharashiv 34.1, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar 36.6 and Parbhani 36.2. In Vidarbha, the readings were Akola 37.7, Amravati 38.8, Buldhana 36.4, Brahmapuri 35.2, Chandrapur 36.4, Gondia 33.6, Nagpur 35.8, Washim 36.0, Wardha 36.2 and Yavatmal 37.4.

Now the region-wise forecast for the next three days. On October 10, rain is possible at a few places in Konkan, while hot and humid weather is likely in other places. Central Maharashtra may also see rain at some places. Marathwada and Vidarbha are expected to stay dry.

On October 11, dry weather is likely in all four regions: Konkan, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha. The forecast for October 12 is the same, with dry weather in all four regions.
