Chennai Super Kings part ways with batting coach Michael Hussey ahead of IPL 2027

The 20th season of the Indian Premier League will be played in 2027, with the players' auction due in Goa later this year. Several franchises have already begun their preparations. Chennai Super Kings have made major changes to their coaching staff ahead of IPL 2027.

The tenure of CSK batting coach Michael Hussey has ended. The franchise has decided to release him. According to reports, the Chennai Super Kings management has officially conveyed its decision to remove Hussey as batting coach before the next season.

Hussey played cricket for CSK for several years. He then joined the team as batting coach in 2018 and had remained in that role with the franchise since.

The changes are not new. Stephen Fleming's tenure with Chennai Super Kings ended after IPL 2026. Former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan was made head coach in his place. It was subsequently reported that CSK had given Zaheer Khan the freedom to put together his own coaching staff. Zaheer had been appointed only a few days earlier, and it was already being said that some major changes to the coaching group could follow.

Besides Zaheer Khan, Mohit Sharma has also now joined CSK. Chennai Super Kings have removed bowling coach Eric Simons and made former India fast bowler Mohit Sharma the new bowling coach. According to reports, the future of fielding coach James Foster is also in doubt, and he is likely to leave the franchise too.

After leaving CSK, Stephen Fleming took over as head coach of the England Test team. There is now growing talk that Hussey could also join the England Test team's coaching staff. He had worked with England as a consultant for the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup and contributed to the team's win.

Overall, since Zaheer Khan's arrival, Chennai Super Kings' coaching staff has seen one change after another. Batting coach Hussey has left, Mohit Sharma has come in as bowling coach, and a question mark remains over the future of fielding coach Foster.
