Preparations for IPL 2027 have begun, and big changes are under way in every franchise. Punjab Kings have now seen a major shake-up, with their coaching staff changing continuously.
Fielding coach Brad Haddin and fast-bowling coach James Hopes have left Punjab Kings. Sairaj Bahutule had recently parted ways with the team before them. Ricky Ponting is now the only member left in Punjab's coaching staff.
Hopes and Ponting have worked closely together and were both part of the Delhi Capitals set-up as well. Haddin, on the other hand, had joined Punjab Kings a few years ago. Both have now decided to leave the team. Brad Haddin and James Hopes have recently informed the franchise of their decision. Punjab will now have to find three new coaches before next year's IPL.
A big responsibility now rests on head coach Ricky Ponting, who will choose the new support staff. Sources say the franchise is in touch with Ponting and talks on possible candidates are on. The management may suggest a few names, but the final decision will be Ponting's. Punjab may announce its new coaches before December.
Haddin and Hopes now have their eyes on the BBL, the Big Bash League. They may get new roles in the Big Bash League.
Punjab had already suffered a big blow after IPL 2026. Spin coach Sairaj Bahutule resigned from his post with immediate effect. He then took charge of the Indian team's spin bowling. Bahutule had joined Punjab before IPL 2026, appointed after Sunil Joshi's departure.
Further big changes may follow in Punjab before next year's IPL. It remains to be seen which three experienced people the franchise brings in as coaches.
