The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Chandrapur police has arrested an accused who had been evading the police for eight years in a liquor smuggling case. He was picked up from Gadchiroli. The action was taken by the LCB team of Chandrapur police.

According to police, the arrested accused is Prashant alias Pintu Shashikant Mistri alias Mandal, 38, a resident of Gadchiroli. Police describe him as the main accused in the case.

Police said the case was registered at Nagbhid police station in 2018 and relates to illegal liquor smuggling. Liquor prohibition was in force in Chandrapur district at that time as well. It was registered under crime register number 80/18 of Nagbhid police station, under Sections 65(A) and 83 of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. Police said the accused had been absconding continuously since the case was registered and had kept out of their sight.

Taking the matter seriously, the LCB team had been searching for the absconding accused. The team then received firm information from a confidential informant that Prashant Mistri was hiding in the Gadchiroli area.

After verifying the information immediately, the team of the Brahmapuri sub-division laid a trap and took Prashant Mistri into custody from Gadchiroli. After detaining him, the LCB handed him over to the Nagbhid police station team for further legal action.

With prohibition being strictly enforced in Chandrapur, the LCB has acted against those carrying on the illegal trade and evading the law for years. According to police, the action has caused panic among other absconding accused who are in hiding.
