Four absconding accused held in Ghugus truck arson case in Chandrapur

Ghugus police and the Local Crime Branch arrested four men on October 9 and 10 for allegedly setting a KVR company truck on fire on September 29.

Chandrapur: Police have arrested four accused who had been absconding in the truck arson case at Ghugus. A joint team of Ghugus police and the Local Crime Branch (LCB) carried out the operation. The four were taken into custody on October 9 and 10, 2026. All of them had been on the run since the day of the offence, and police had been searching for them.

The incident took place on the night of September 29, 2026, on the Dumper Road between Nakoda and the Bahirambaba temple. According to the information received, some unidentified persons stopped a truck of KVR company (registration number MH 34 CQ 3385). The accused then forcibly pulled the driver out of the vehicle and set the truck on fire, causing heavy damage, it is alleged.

The driver had given an oral complaint. On that basis, a case was registered at Ghugus police station under crime number 297/26, under Sections 326(f), 126(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

With all the accused absconding since the offence, the police faced a major challenge. Even so, the investigation team of Ghugus police and the Local Crime Branch conducted a thorough search on the basis of secret informants and technical analysis. This technical and confidential probe yielded precise information. Acting on it, police made a joint operation on October 9 and 10, 2026, arrested all four main accused and solved the serious crime.

The four arrested are Samsher Mehboob Shaikh, Khurshid Ikram Khan, Aftab Nafis Ahmed and Irfan Rafiq Shaikh.

The operation was carried out on the orders of the Chandrapur Superintendent of Police and under the guidance of Police Inspector Prakash Raut.
