Another shooting has taken place in Ulhasnagar in Thane district. At around 8.15 pm on Wednesday, Harish Gajwani, a locally well-known YouTuber, was shot dead on a very crowded road outside Ulhasnagar railway station. The killing has caused a stir in Ulhasnagar and across Thane district.
The incident comes at a time when the murder of Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) leader Pradeep Purnekar in Thane's Manpada area is still fresh.
According to the information available, Gajwani was walking along the road in the Ulhasnagar railway station area. Unidentified assailants followed him, came up from behind and caught hold of him. They fired two bullets into his head from point-blank range. Gajwani fell, drenched in blood, and died on the spot. The sudden gunfire in a crowded place spread panic, and there was a stampede in the area for some time.
The actual reason for the murder is not yet clear. However, it is being said that the killing could have its background in an attack four years ago. Four years ago, a murderous attack was carried out on Avinash Naidu, a suspect. It is learnt that Gajwani was an accused in that case. For this reason, police are also investigating whether the attack is the result of an old enmity.
Police reached the spot as soon as they were informed and conducted the panchnama. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being scanned to identify the assailants. Police have set up a blockade in search of the absconding accused. Police are also looking into whether a personal dispute, old enmity, a financial dealing or some other reason lay behind the murder. The exact motive and the role of the assailants will become clear only after a thorough investigation.
