The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) has issued a short notification for 120 posts of medical officer under the Short Service Commission. It is a good opportunity for young doctors who wish to serve the country while building a career in medicine. Male and female doctors recruited through this drive can serve as medical officers in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.

Of the 120 posts, 90 are for male candidates and 30 are reserved for female candidates.

The dates need to be noted carefully. The detailed notification will be issued on November 7, 2026. Online applications will begin on November 9, 2026, and the last date to apply is November 18, 2026. Interested and eligible candidates must apply online at the official website join.afms.gov.in. The application fee is Rs 200 for candidates of all categories and must be paid online.

For educational qualification, a candidate must hold an MBBS degree from any recognised medical college or university in the country. Permanent registration with a state medical council or the National Medical Commission is also mandatory. A feature of this recruitment is that candidates with a PG diploma or a PG degree (MD/MS/DNB), in addition to an MBBS, can also apply.

The age limit will be reckoned as on December 31, 2026. The maximum age is 30 years for MBBS and PG diploma holders, and 35 years for PG (MD/MS) degree holders.

The selection process will have three stages. First, eligible candidates who apply online will be shortlisted on the basis of their documents and marks. Those shortlisted will be called for an interview at the Army Hospital (Research & Referral) in Delhi. The interview is likely to be held in December 2026. Those who clear the interview will have to undergo medical and physical fitness tests. After all these stages, a final merit list will be prepared.
