A case has been registered against Inspector Rajesh Khandve, who is alleged to have beaten a complainant inside Sahakarnagar police station while drunk; a medical test confirmed he had consumed alcohol.
A case has been registered against a police inspector at Sahakarnagar police station in Pune. He is alleged to have badly beaten, inside the station, a citizen who had come to file a complaint, while heavily drunk. The inspector has been named as Rajesh Khandve, who is posted with the crime branch of Sahakarnagar police station. The incident has caused a major stir in the Pune police force.
People go to the police in times of trouble hoping for justice, but here the opposite happened. According to the information available, the citizen had also gone to Sahakarnagar police station to register a complaint. Inspector Khandve, who was at the station at the time, was completely intoxicated.
It is alleged that Khandve did not bother to listen to the citizen. He began abusing him straight away and beat him badly. Even then he did not stop, and kept shouting loudly and creating a commotion inside the station.
Shaken by this behaviour, the complainant summoned up courage and eventually filed a complaint with the police against Khandve himself. The man was thus beaten at the very place where he had gone seeking help, and had to complain against the same officer before whom he had gone to plead his case.
Giving further details, Milind Mohite, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 2, said the accused inspector, Rajesh Khandve, was immediately taken to Sassoon Hospital, where he underwent a medical examination. According to Mohite, the examination clearly showed that he had consumed alcohol.
The case against Inspector Khandve has been registered after this examination. Strict departmental action against him is said to be very likely over the act, which has damaged the reputation of the police force.
