A senior Pune police officer has been booked on the allegation that he came to Sahakarnagar police station drunk in the early hours and created a disturbance.
A case has been registered against a senior police officer in Pune. He is accused of coming to Sahakarnagar police station in an inebriated state in the early hours and creating a commotion. The episode is said to have lasted nearly half an hour, forcing senior officers to step in.
Rajesh Khandve works as police inspector (crime) at Sahakarnagar police station. He is alleged to have arrived at the station at around 2 am. According to the available information, he began shouting and creating a disturbance, which led to tension among the officers and staff on duty. The disturbance is said to have continued until about 2.30 am.
On receiving information, senior police officers rushed to the police station and brought the situation under control. Given Khandve's post in the department, the matter was taken seriously. A case was then registered against him at Sahakarnagar police station itself on Saturday morning.
After the incident, Khandve was taken to Sassoon General Hospital for a medical examination. The nature of the allegations and the registration of a case against an officer in a senior position have raised concern about discipline and conduct in the Pune police force.
Initially, senior officers were not willing to speak on the matter. The details emerged after Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar asked the officers concerned to share information about the incident.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Mohite confirmed that the crime police inspector of Sahakarnagar police station is alleged to have created a disturbance after consuming alcohol. He also stated that a case has been registered in the matter.
The news comes just two days after another incident involving a police employee at the Police Commissioner's residence. That incident had already been talked about within the department. The latest case has again raised questions about the discipline of personnel.
As the police force is responsible for enforcing the law and maintaining public order, these incidents have put the conduct of police officers and staff under scrutiny. Further details of the action against Khandve are yet to emerge.
