A police inspector posted at Sahakarnagar police station in Pune has been accused of arriving at the station in an inebriated state in the early hours of Saturday and creating a commotion there. A case has been registered against the inspector at the same police station.

The officer has been identified as Rajesh Khandewe. He is the Police Inspector (Crime) at Sahakarnagar police station.

According to police officials, Khandewe reached the police station at about 2 am and allegedly began shouting and making noise. It is said that this went on for about half an hour, until roughly 2.30 am.

When news of the incident reached senior police officers, they came to Sahakarnagar police station at once, intervened and brought the situation under control.

Taking the matter seriously, senior officers began action. A case was then registered against Khandewe at Sahakarnagar police station in the morning.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Milind Mohite confirmed the incident. He said the police inspector of the crime branch had created a ruckus at the police station after consuming alcohol, and a case had been registered in this connection.

Khandewe was then taken to Sassoon General Hospital for a medical examination.

The incident has set off discussion in the Pune city police force, because the officer concerned is himself posted at the police station where the alleged commotion took place. Senior police officers initially declined to say anything on the matter. The information was provided later, after Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar intervened.

Details of the sections invoked in the case and of the departmental action to be taken against the inspector are awaited.
