Pune airport police have registered a case against a 33-year-old passenger accused of trying to lift the cover over the emergency exit lever while the aircraft was airborne.

Pune airport police have registered a case against a passenger on an IndiGo Delhi-Pune flight. The passenger is accused of trying to open the cover over the emergency exit lever while the aircraft was in the air. He is said to be 33 years old.

The FIR names the passenger as Gaurav Satyendra Rautela. He lives in Saswad in Pune district and works with a private company. He was travelling on IndiGo flight 6E6884 on November 2.

According to the complaint, the flight left Delhi at around 12.30 am. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 7) Abinash Kumar said, "At around 12.45 am, Rautela, seated at 19D, allegedly tried to open the cover over the emergency exit lever."

The complaint says the act activated the aircraft's sensors. A cabin crew member then went to the passenger. The crew member asked for his name and address and also checked his ticket to confirm his identity.

According to the FIR, the aircraft landed at Pune airport at around 2.30 am.

The complaint was filed by Omkar Vinod Kulkarni, 28, who described himself as a senior executive in IndiGo's security department. He alleges that the passenger's act endangered the lives and personal safety of others on board.

Airport police registered FIR No. 0520/2026 at 7.56 pm on November 2. Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, has been invoked along with an aviation-related provision. The investigation has been assigned to Police Sub-Inspector Dilip Kanta Palwe.

Police said the punishment under these sections is less than seven years, so Rautela has not been arrested. For now, a case has been registered and the investigation is on. What has emerged so far are allegations made in the complaint.
