Baramati doctor booked for molesting woman patient during examination at multispeciality hospital

A case of outraging a woman's modesty has been registered against a doctor of a well-known multispeciality hospital in Baramati town, on the complaint of a woman patient. The woman alleges that the doctor behaved improperly with her during a check-up and exercises when she went for treatment. The case has caused a stir in the town's medical circles.

The case has been registered at Baramati City police station against Dr Radheya Khalate of Khalate Multispeciality Hospital. In her complaint, the woman has made serious allegations about the doctor's conduct.

According to the complaint, the woman went to the hospital on October 19 for treatment of stomach pain. She was put on a saline drip during treatment. Then, at around 11.30 am, Dr Khalate called her into his cabin. Her young son was with her at the time.

According to the woman, Dr Khalate first checked her blood pressure and heartbeat. He then asked her to do some back exercises. She states in the complaint that during this the doctor kept coming close to her, and came close again even after she asked him to keep his distance.

The woman also alleges that during the exercises the doctor touched her waist and asked whether her heart was racing. This made her uncomfortable. She refused to do the remaining exercises and requested that she be given medicines and sent home. She then returned home with the medicines.

In the complaint, the woman said the incident was causing her mental distress. The next day, on the occasion of Dussehra, the doctor sent a greeting message on WhatsApp. The woman then asked him to explain the previous day's incident. The woman claims that Dr Khalate replied with a message apologising and saying it would not happen again.

When the woman's husband later came to Baramati, she told him everything. She then filed a complaint with the police on October 23. On the basis of this complaint, a case has been registered against the doctor under sections including those for outraging a woman's modesty.

Police Sub-Inspector Sonam Jagtap is investigating the case. How true the allegations in the complaint are will become clear from the investigation. Attention now turns to the doctor's side and the police's further investigation.
