Pune police shut Koregaon Park's Plunge pub until further orders for running past closing time

Pune, November 4, 2026: Pune police have ordered the Plunge pub in Koregaon Park to stay closed until further orders. An inquiry found that the pub was permitted to remain open only until 1.30 am but kept running after that. The police took the step for this reason.

The action was taken on the directions of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, who had received information that the pub was allegedly violating the prescribed timing for pubs, bars and restaurants. All such establishments may stay open until 1.30 am, but the inquiry found Plunge was running even after 2 am.

During the inquiry, police marshals visited the pub at 1.30 am to check whether it had closed. The management is said to have told them that the pub had shut for the night. After satisfying themselves that it had closed, the marshals left. It later emerged that the pub reopened soon after they went.

The incident has raised the suspicion that the establishment was shut briefly whenever police came to check and reopened as soon as the police left. For now, this remains only a suspicion.

The police administration has taken the matter seriously. Why the pub reopened after the marshals left will also be investigated. The police said strict action would be taken against establishments that violate the prescribed timing.

Plunge has been told to remain closed until further orders, meaning the pub will stay shut until the police issue a fresh order. The 1.30 am deadline is the prescribed closing time for pubs, bars and restaurants. Following the action, those running other pubs and bars in Koregaon Park have also become alert. Police are likely to continue monitoring establishments that operate beyond the prescribed time.
