Constable Amol Bhise, 42, allegedly drunk, hit the gate of Commissioner Amitesh Kumar's residence and tried to run the car at guards on Tuesday evening, police said.
A shocking incident took place on Tuesday evening at the official residence of Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar. It is alleged that a policeman, one of those entrusted with protecting the city, rammed his car into the main gate of the bungalow and tried to drive it at the security personnel posted there.
According to police, the accused constable is Amol Bhise, 42. He was allegedly drunk when he drove the car into the gate of the Commissioner's bungalow in the Cantonment area. Police said on Wednesday that he was taken into custody after the incident and a case of attempt to murder has been registered against him.
The security personnel on duty at the bungalow tried to stop Bhise from entering. It is alleged that he then tried to drive the car at them, after which police took action. Whether anyone was injured has not yet been disclosed.
Confirming the incident, Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said Bhise appeared to be drunk and did not seem to be in a sound mental state. He also said the constable was suspended in 2025 and reinstated in 2026.
Kumar said, "He hit the gate with the vehicle and tried to get inside." He added that Bhise has a history of disciplinary problems and is also allegedly accused of involvement in several offences.
Police are now trying to establish why the constable went to the Commissioner's residence in a car and tried to force his way in. Officials are also examining his past disciplinary record, as well as the circumstances of his suspension and subsequent reinstatement.
