Payal Jhambre, 29, died in Mukundnagar, Pune, allegedly over harassment by her in-laws; her husband has been sent to four days' police custody.
A software engineer has died by suicide in the Mukundnagar area of Pune. Payal Jhambre, 29, who was married, is said to have taken the step after being harassed by her in-laws. The incident has caused a stir in Pune and across Maharashtra.
A case has been registered against Payal's husband Akshay Jhambre, her mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law. Police have arrested Akshay Jhambre. He was produced in court, which sent him to four days' police custody. The mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law are absconding, and police are searching for them.
Payal was highly educated and worked as a software engineer. Grief is being expressed on all sides at her death. Payal's family have made serious allegations in the case.
Describing his pain, Payal's father said, "My daughter was swallowed up, the piece of our heart was snatched away." He claimed that the in-laws began troubling Payal from the day after the wedding. According to him, she was repeatedly targeted over petty matters such as a hotel not being booked for guests and silver items not being given.
A woman from the family said the dispute had in fact escalated over property. According to her, Payal was under heavy pressure to claim a share of her father's property and to get a plot on Satara Road transferred in her name. The woman also said the mother-in-law had a major quarrel with Payal two days before her death.
The family alleges that Payal was not the kind of person to take such a step and that the mother-in-law and husband created these circumstances. It is also being said that a few days after the wedding, the husband pulled Payal by her hair, dragged her down the stairs and beat her severely. According to the family, the husband was completely under his mother's sway and did whatever she said.
Over these allegations, Payal's family have demanded strict legal action against the Jhambre family.
