Hutchings High School and Junior College, one of Pune's oldest institutions, says all its candidates passed the 2026 ICSE and ISC examinations.

Hutchings High School and Junior College is counted among the oldest educational institutions in Pune. Its history goes back to 1879. The school is at 7, Phayre Road, Pune 411040, in Pune Cantonment. It is a co-educational day school and the medium of instruction is English.

The school began in 1879 as the Methodist High School. After several changes, it was renamed Hutchings High School in 1946, in honour of Mrs Emily Hutchings, who had played an important part in taking the institution forward. The school is run under the Bombay Regional Conference of the Methodist Church in India.

The school says it has about 3,045 students and 124 staff, teaching and non-teaching combined. Classes run from pre-nursery to Class XII. The ICSE examination is held in Class X and the ISC in Class XII, so a child can study in the same school from the early classes to senior secondary.

The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). Its code in the CISCE directory is MA035, and the directory lists it as a co-educational day school. The directory currently names Ms Rita Katawati as the head of the school.

In the ISC, the school offers the Science, Commerce and Humanities streams. According to the school's document, English Language and Literature, Physics and Chemistry are compulsory in Science. Electives include Biology, Computer Science, Physical Education, Commerce, Mathematics, Psychology and Business Studies. Subject combinations and availability can change every year, so it is advisable to obtain the full list for the current year before seeking admission.

The school has a good deal going on beyond academics. Students take part in debates, speeches, drama, quizzes, spelling bees and science exhibitions. Art and craft exhibitions are also held. According to the school, its students have represented it in sports and competitions at the district, state and national levels. It also has a house system, with four houses: Wesley, Livingstone, Thoburn and Robinson.

Class timings differ. Pre-nursery and nursery run from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. Preparatory is from 7:30 am to 11:00 am. Classes I to IV run from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm, and Classes V to X from 7:30 am to 1:45 pm. The school office timings are different from class timings.

On results, the school has posted its 2026 ICSE and ISC results on its website. According to the school, the result was 100% in both. The top ICSE 2026 scores were 99%, 98.6%, 98.6%, 98.4% and 98.4%. In ISC 2026, the highest scores are 95.50% in Science, 95.25% in Commerce and 96.25% in Humanities. These are figures released by the school itself, not a ranking from any independent check.

On admissions, the school's information is that forms are generally available only for classes in which vacancies are expected, and the process begins around January. Where applicable, transfer cases are given preference. A transfer or leaving certificate is mandatory for Class I and above. Seats vary by class and year, so current admission details should be obtained from the admissions office.

Several things remain unconfirmed. No reliable, official grade-wise fee details were found in the public domain. There was not enough evidence of a major school-wide programme in AI, coding and robotics, although Computer Science is an ISC elective. Current information on financial literacy, counselling, special education, security arrangements, bus routes and charges will also have to be confirmed directly with the school.

On the whole, Hutchings' identity is not a new trend but its old tradition, ICSE and ISC teaching, large student numbers, sports and other activities. For parents who want these things, the school is worth a visit. Those for whom AI, robotics or counselling matter more should visit the school and ask questions. This information was checked against the school's website and the CISCE directory as of October 2026.
